GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

The individual is responsible for assisting with all phases of the Cross Country program at King William High School. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: coaching and student-athlete skill development, with emphasis on technique and strength/endurance development. This position is part-time. However, if an instructional vacancy for which a candidate qualifies is available, he or she will be considered to fill the vacancy.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A thorough knowledge of applicable VHSL rules and regulations is required.
  2. Previous experience coaching Cross Country is preferred.
  3. Ability to lead and motivate student-athletes is required.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  5. Bachelor's degree and valid Virginia teaching license preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support and assist the head coach in the development of a sports program that challenges student-athletes to succeed individually and as a team. 
  2. Effectively assist student-athletes to achieve within the team system developed by the head coach. 
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to assisting student-athletes achieve academic success. 
  4. Assist the head coach in managing various administrative tasks related to the operation of the program such as equipment management and coordination of team travel. 
  5. Comply with VHSL and regulations developed by the head coach and athletic director.
  6. Other responsibilities as required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Duties performed typically in an athletics setting (practice facility, field, etc.). Performs professional work providing instruction for the assigned sport. Work requires prolonged standing and physical movement as it relates job-specific duties. Lifting of up to 50 pounds (more than 50 pounds with assistance) may be required. Vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for monitoring activities and participants is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
