GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Position is responsible for assisting with the coaching of student athletes in competitive Cheerleader techniques to prepare them for events or competition. This is a part-time position and does not include benefits.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (In collaboration with the head coach.)

  1. Works with cheerleaders during practices and meets.
  2. Assesses skills and assigns team positions.
  3. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  4. Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  5. Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  6. Maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times.
  7. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  8. Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
  9. Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the program.
  10. Models sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
  11. Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms.
  12. Works with the head coach and athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  13. Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  14. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  15. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  16. Other duties as assigned by the head cheer coach.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Knowledge of applicable VHSL rules and regulations required.
  2. Experience coaching high school cheerleading preferred. 
  3. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  4. Qualified to teach in Virginia; current license preferred.
  5. Current CDL with passenger endorsement highly recommended.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Duties performed typically in an athletics setting (practice facility, field, etc.). Performs professional work providing instruction for the assigned sport. Work requires prolonged standing and physical movement as it relates job-specific duties. Lifting of up to 30 pounds (more than 30 pounds with assistance) may be required. Vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for monitoring activities and participants is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
