DESCRIPTION:
Part-Time School Nutrition employees work in the local cafeteria under the immediate supervision of the School Nutrition Manager. Involvement in routine operations of the school nutrition program will include, but are not limited to, preparing and serving meals, operating the cash register, sanitation, and recordkeeping.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current TB test.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Courses in food service or related areas preferred.
- At least one (1) year of experience in the food service industry preferred.
- Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and principles preferred.
- Knowledge of cashier operations and procedures preferred.
- Completion of a background screening.
- Basic computer skills (using email, typing documents, etc…)
- Ability to read, understand and prepare food using standardized recipes.
- Ability to follow instructions in print form as well as verbal.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, while maintaining a customer service oriented attitude and professional demeanor
REPORTS TO: Director of Food Service
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 5.5 Hours each day school is in session for the school year; any additional professional development and/or cleaning days assigned by the Director of School Nutrition
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Effectively communicate and interact with staff, students, faculty, visitors, and co-workers in a pleasant and professional manner, through use of the telephone and personal contact. Proficient in speaking and reading English.
- Attends in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Portion foods into appropriate quantities per recipe or as instructed to comply with federal, state, and local program regulations and meal patterns.
- Use techniques outlined in recipe or as instructed (chopping, dicing, mixing, slicing, etc.) to assist with food preparation.
- Wash pots, pans, and other items in accordance with protocol.
- Monitor temperature of food and beverage prior to service and report unsafe temperatures to manager and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Serve food according to recipe portion or as instructed to comply with federal, state, and local program regulations and meal patterns.
- Disassemble serving line and clean serving area.
- Discard or properly store left-over foods.
- Perform all tasks in accordance with HACCP guidelines.
- Remove garbage from trash receptacles and insert new bags.
- Carry out multiple duties and work in ALL positions in the kitchen environment
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Report to work at scheduled time with proper uniform and appropriately groomed.
- Assist in unpacking boxes, stocking storeroom or coolers, pulling food items from storeroom and other inventory management duties as assigned.
- Perform cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Adhere to all school district and building rules and regulations.
- Utilize proper hand washing techniques.
- Participate in meetings, training sessions, and seminars as scheduled.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds (50 pounds with assistance) and push 70 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time on concrete flooring.
- Ability to tolerate loud noises.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures in hot kitchen and cold freezers.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Duties are performed within a school cafeteria and food preparation area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to loud noise levels, fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and chemicals associated with the position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel utensils and other apparatus associated with the job; reach with hands and arms; climb; bend; stoop; crouch; lift; grasp; kneel; and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time. The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate a clear understanding of all procedures. This includes the pushing/pulling of up to 70 pounds.
