GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

King William County Public Schools is in search of an English teacher who will plan and implement a program of study that reflects both the mission and vision of the division while meeting the individual needs and abilities of students.

 

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, well organized, and promotes student engagement.
  2. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation in accordance with KWCPS, state, and federal guidelines.
  3. Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and within the content of theses goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons and units.
  4. Establishes high academic expectations for academic success.
  5. Establishes clear and consistent expectations regarding student behavior.
  6. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the students.
  7. Meets and plans regularly with content or grade level teams to develop instructional plans and identifies and discusses advances in strategies with colleagues.
  8. Collects and disaggregates data to design lessons, determine remediation strategies, and prepare students for academic success on cumulative assessments.
  9. Identifies students with special learning needs and collaborates with specialists.
  10. Assesses student progress on a regular basis and reports to administration, counselors and parents.
  11. Actively participates in staff and or department meetings.
  12. Upholds and enforces all school rules and policies.
  13. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents.
  14. Participates in opportunities for professional growth.
  15. Abides by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  16. Provides supervision to students, whether in a classroom setting or theatre setting.
  17. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  18. Maintains accurate records pertaining to the theatre budget.
  19. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  20. Serves on committees as assigned.
  21. Provides opportunities for student performances outside the division and at various competitive levels.
  22. Other duties as required.

 

SUPERVISOR:  Principal

 

FLSA:  Exempt

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       10-month contract (200 days)

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have a collegiate or postgraduate professional license or be eligible for a provisional license in English.
  2. Master's Degree and experience teaching at the secondary level preferred.
  3. Candidate must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.

 

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements 
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds (more than 25 pounds with assistance); to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
