DESCRIPTION
Candidate will effectively teach students the assigned curriculum. The candidate will also work with students to develop skills that will contribute to student achievement and citizenship. The candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating instruction based upon specific goals and objectives established by King William County Public Schools and Virginia Standards of Learning.
QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a Virginia teaching license or be eligible for a provisional teaching license with the required endorsements.

Teaching experience preferred.

Master's Degree preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current practices, techniques, and methods of teaching; the principles of educational testing and principles and methods of remedial education.
- Ability to apply age appropriate, modern methods and principles of education to students.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Immediate Supervision: Principal
Contract: 10 months (200 days)
Salary Scale: Teacher
FLSA Status: Exempt
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Teaches assigned curriculum to middle school pupils utilizing core curriculum and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content as approved by the Virginia Department of Education.
- Demonstrates mastery of knowledge and instruction to ensure student success on required Standards of Learning assessments.
- Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional which support higher levels of thought and learning methods.
- Demonstrates essential concepts using models, age appropriate technology, and other approved or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
- Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive classroom environment.
- Evaluates each pupil's progress in curriculum knowledge and skills.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
- Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students' achievement.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual pupil's progress.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematic teams.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students. The educator also demonstrates the ability to provide positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting; demonstrates an understanding of the various learning styles and models instruction to address student needs. Designs assessments that provide accurate and usable data to support on-going student achievement. Utilizes current modes of technology to support curriculum and models effective use of a variety of manipulatives/models to support student engagement and comprehension. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community members.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing instruction for the assigned subject. Work requires prolonged standing and physical movement as it relates job-specific duties. Light lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data are required.
