CONTRACT:        10 months/200 days                      FSLA: Exempt

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Valid Virginia Teaching License to teach Spanish or eligible for a Virginia Provisional, Collegiate or Postgraduate Professional License to teach Spanish.
  2. Master’s Degree preferred.
  3. One year of teaching experience at the secondary level or its equivalency preferred.
  4. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  5. Highly Qualified Status as determined by the Virginia Department of Education.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

To motivate each student to develop competencies, knowledge and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing the designated language in accordance with each student’s ability; to interpret to pupils the culture of the countries where the language is spoken in order to facilitate a thorough understanding and appreciation the specified peoples and countries.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of current practices, techniques, and methods of teaching to secondary pupils.
  2. Effective use of strategies that result in students being able to demonstrate aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing as related to the language.
  3. Develops lesson plans that consistently reflect the importance of active student engagement and higher level thinking skills.
  4. Provides learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, utilizing audio recording devices or other equipment as appropriate.
  5. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students.
  6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to ensure a productive and safe learning environment.
  7. Evaluates student progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the language in relationship to the level being taught.
  8. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
  9. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  10. Communicates appropriately with students, co-workers, and administration.
  11. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students resolve concerns.
  12. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  13. Supervises students in out-of-class activities during the assigned work day.
  14. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  15. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  16. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to gain a clear understanding of the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district and State guidelines.
  17. Performs other duties as determined by the school board.
