DESCRIPTION

Candidate will effectively teach students the assigned curriculum. Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in aural comprehensive speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language, in accordance with each student’s ability; to interpret to students the culture of the countries where the language is spoken. The candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating instruction based upon specific goals and objectives established by King William County Public Schools and Virginia Standards of Learning.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field and meet the Virginia Department of
    Education licensure eligibility requirements to teach a foreign language.
  2. Must be eligible or possess Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement to teach a foreign language.
  3. Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  4. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.

        Contract:                                 10 months (200 days)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Teaches skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction, utilizing curriculum designated by King William County Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of King William County Public Schools.
  3. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course / SOL standards.
  4. Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student and the needs of identified subgroups of students.
  5. Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where the studied language is spoken.
  6. Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards in comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the world language.
  7. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other record keeping activities as necessary.
  8. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  9. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve academic concerns.
  10. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  11. Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  12. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  13. Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
  14. Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity or learning centers.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

  1. Abides by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  2. Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  5. Serves on committees as assigned.
  6. Remains current on instructional practices in education.  (e.g. instructional technology)
